I was told last year that if a hen is broody and I do not want her setting, to put her in a cage for 3 days without water or food and she will come out of the mood. The floor must not be comfortable.

It worked last year. This year it is NOT working. I have one hen that will spend 3 days in solitary, one day out, 3 days in, one day out.
I can NOT get her out of the broody mood.

I do not want to continue this with her. It can not be healthy.

What works for you?

I was told to dunk the hen in cold water, wasnt really told how long or how often but I dunked my marans twice a day and she stopped being broody in two days. I dunked her in my ducks pool just up over her tail feathers and held her there a minute or so. Kinda like a cold shower I guess

I did this late morning when my girls were done laying then I restricted access to the nest boxes and dunked her. It's pretty warm here so I wasnt worried about her getting chilled. i wouldnt do it in the winter though...

I just kept taking her off the nest and putting her in another location across from the nest. She would immediately jump off and go get food and water. I did this for 3 days and she finally got the message. Everytime I was near the coop I moved her. Maybe 2-3 times a day.
