so recently my Peking duck lost her best friend and she has been super lonely. She follows us everywhere quaking wants to come inside and it’s sad watching her ourtside by herself. She is a free range duck and stays on our property which is not currently fully fenced. ( currently under construction.) her and her buddy never left the property and would come when called. So we just got a new duck to keep our Pekin company, she is a Muscovy duck doesn’t quite look as old as my pekin. She’s a good size but her feathers look all messed up like maybe there not fully grown in, either that or she’s just filthy and needs to get in the water and clean up. The person that had her had her in a small cage with like 6 other ducks and no water to swim so maybe that’s why she’s so dirty. Anyways to get to my question, I already introduced the ducks and they seem to get along fine, just wondering if there are any suggestions what I should do, since the duck is probably used to being in a cage. I don’t want her to run off the property. It seems like she’s very friendly, and I don’t want her to lock her up all day because then she won’t bond with the other duck?

I might somehow pen them up for a few days while they bond. Then your duck will likely show the newbie around. I wouldn’t worry too much since they never seem to go anywhere by themselves. Lol.

If the Muscovy can fly she well may leave because right now she is confused so keep them inside a good size pen together and clip one wing on the scovy to keep her home[they love to fly]. I'd keep them penned at least 2 weeks then clip and let them free range.

Then for their own protection and your peace of mind lock them up at night inside a safe and secure house Predators are very hungry this time of year.

I clip my female Muscovy wings every fall after they molt never want to take a chance of one flying off way too many predators for it to be safe for them to leave the fenced property even in day light with out me with them.
