Hi there all you hens & roosters - I've been out of the chicken hobby for about a year after the fox ate the flock.

I'm usually VERY busy in the fall & winter & didn't want to get back into it until I could dedicate some time to them. I've been getting the coop ready again (been using it as a shed).

The automatic door is set - just need to plug it in & set the open/close times.

I do need to get or build some nesting boxes. The old ones I had built were mouse havens. So this time I'm thinking of getting a set of the metal wall hangers.

Going to the auction next friday to see what kind of birds they have - they usually have chicks & always have adult birds - I am not exactly in a residential area - but my neighbors think they are - I'm zoned for livestock though so I'm good & really the neighbors all liked the chickens I've had in the past.

I will only get heritage dual purpose breeds - I had several white leghorns before & they were CRAZY!! so its buff orpingtons or other such calm breeds.

I may get some guinea's to work as a guard dog -

I just started over too, after 5 or so years of no chickens (foxes and coons). The chicks are in a big box in the barn right now, while hubby is finishing the new coop. Second time around I feel like I know more what to look for. Our new nest boxes are built into the eaves of the coop (built into the overhang of the roof). Worked perfectly. I would've looved to find some old metal nesting boxes, but the ones Ive seen our really expensive. I hate foxes and raccoons... Hopefully, the new coop and run will be like Fort Knox. Good luck to you!
