I have raised chickens since I was 8. I am now retired with a two year old and one on the way in upstate New York and have not had chickens in about ten years. I am researching and planning on having chickens in 2013. I am seeking to raise Heritage Chickens on a small scale (say 20 for each breed) and have zeroed in on Campine and Langshan breeds. I am seeking information on the oldest breed known to have roots in colonial America and would appreciate information on that. Whatever this breed is will be the third breed I nurture with my wonderful family. I look forward to taking care of a few rare breeds and share the experience with my children. I would appreciate any input regard these birds.

I raised Plymouth Rocks along with raising beef cattle with my first three children and am of the opinion that farm animals are great to have in a child's life.
