If you wanted to get birds from one country to another, how would you go about doing it? I'm sure this could be expensive but, I would like to know how it could be done if anyone knows. Thanks

Not sure of the details, but they have to be in quarantine at the NY NPIP center, if I remember correctly, and naturally, there will be permits, etc, etc. Hopefully, someone with more knowledge than I will come along soon. Happy to see you posting again!

Been a tough year Cyn. I had to sell almost every bird I had due to unemployment and lack of jobs around here. I am up and runnin' again and looking forward to getting back into raising chickens. You still have blue orps? If so, I'm hunting chicks or eggs. Also BLRW chicks or eggs along with Black Copper Marans.
Have a great day and I've missed being here!

Glad you were able to get a job and get things turned around. It certainly is tough out there! My wife lost her job in real estate and my business has all but closed up sadly. On a positive note though we have Black copper marans and BLRW so if you were interested you can see them on our website at www.bishopschickens. Chicks are $5.00 each and the eggs are $30.00 a dozen plus shipping. Have some other breeds of marans and tophats as well!

Jeff (or Pete--I never called you Pete, did I?), I do have Suede and two blue Orp hens, but fertility is in and out with them. These two hens are not my best. I lost both Velvet and Skye since you were here last, both my typey girls. Was sorry to hear about your bad year. So many folks were in the same boat.

I live in Maine and have wondered about getting hatching eggs across the border by including them in a grocery bag with other breakfast stuffs. But, you were probably talking about legal means...

That is not the first time stuff like that happens in the US. Plenty of US chicken breeders did that and they had to fly under the radar for a few years. Just do not say anything because you can get into trouble with the US officials and they can take your flock. I'd rather have the paperwork on the hatching eggs or legal documentation of NPIP status of either side of the border like the hatcheries do and you can do it as well. MM has done importation of their shipped chicks, but you have to walk across the water into the US to get your chicks and bring it to customs and they will look over the paperworks and guide you what you need to do. First of all even you ever get anything, be sure to read and call up proper authorities for further proper guides in "importing chicks or eggs" into Canada OR importing from Canada.

Personally I do not see a problem importing eggs and chicks into US from Canada but I sure do not want to get into trouble with authorities. Not worth losing the whole flock of birds without any NPIP papers or legal documentations.

All the posts so far are about getting birds into hte US, which may be the information needed. But, incase the poster is interested in sending birds from the US to another country or between two countries that do not include the US,

You need to check the imporetation rules for the country to which they are going. Exportation rules for the country or origin may have something to say to the issue, but I rather doubt it (considereing we are likely talking about domestic chickens) unless it is a very rare, protected breed or species.

There are different rules for live birds and hatching eggs. There may be a difference between chicks and started or adult birds as well.
