Quiet chickens without predator proof housing get killed at night all the time. I would either use stronger wire, run an electric fence or have a dog to guard them, if it was me. Predators hunt by smell, as well as sound and sight.

Quite when predator not present. Loud as possible when present. Not loud all time. I suspect roudiness whe no predator present is artifact of confinement.

Predator management that is reliant only upon predator proof confinement will be less effective than system where I can detect predators before before morning after.
