I have had chickens for 7 years and have never lost one to a predator or ANYTHING questionable until this past fall and lost a 4 do salmon faveroles boy to ?. then last week my 6 mo golden campine pullet passed after 3 days of ? so MY POINT IS am picking up 6 girls/1 boy black australorp chix tuesday from meyer hatchery and the weather has sucked(to say the least) and am down to an ancient neon to drive the 100 miles to get them and am scared to death for their safety(I am being a drama queen, forgive me) and my cars safety and I HOPE WE GET HOME OK and have normal "oooo-chix are here!" experience. these are to be my future great layers and possibly breed my own for our consumption and am excited and I will quit rambling now but PLEASE WISH US LUCK!

Good Luck with all your family, chicks and peoples!!

Don't forget to disinfect the coop w/ new birds coming (and the brooder)! Also make sure the coop is predator proof.
If you don't know what the birds died from then cover all your bases. You will be fine with all of your experience:clap

good luck! if you've owned birds for as long as you have, i'd say you are perfectly qualified to take care of the chickies.
