Getting brave...

All right, I decided to get brave and finally try out my bator. I got a little flustered last time I pulled it out because the cord was plugged directly into the wall and was messing up the temp. Now I have it plugged into a surge protector and it has been so easy to regulate it.
I have a few questions though. What's the temp in a still air? 101 or 102deg?? What humidity? I've been told anywhere from 50% to 80%...does it matter so much? Thanks!!

In my still air I do 102-103 at the top of the egg, that gets my weasel to read 99 or so. The humidity should start at 50% and move up to 70-80% on day 19. Do you have a water weasel?? I would recommend one. I thought my temps were fine in my still air but had trouble with multiple hatches so wen tto Walmart for one, found out I was about 3 degrees lower than I was shooting for.

I will definitely get a water weasel. I have to pick up a humidity reader...hydrometer?? I think it's called...anyway. I have 2 Wal-marts within 10 miles from me,

so shouldn't be a problem.

What breeds are you going to try to hatch Angie? You know the odd thing with my hatches is that before I had a way to measure humidity my hatches were great. Now that I have all the little gadgets to keep an eye on things my hatches stink....go figure!

Silkies, hopefully

I am buying a pair of girls tomorrow, a splash and a gray and they have been in with a beautiful splash rooster, so I'm hoping to get some chicks to help cover the cost of the girls. It's funny, for the first time this year none of my other silkies (I have 4 other girls!) are broody...go figure!!

These are the two girls, the rooster is in the background of the first pic.

I wish the gray had more of a crest, but her feet are perfect, and that is hard to find.
