I've got 2 week old chicks and one of them, keeps hopping on top of the waterer. Is there anyway to make her stop? I've hung papertowels through the top of the cage to sort of block her, but I don't know how much that is going to help or prevent her from continuing. I'm thinking of fashioning a dunce hat out of tinfoil and putting that on top, but I'm not sure that would work and think if they get to it, it may not be good for them.

She wants to experiment with those legs feet and wings. Is there a way to attach a piece of broom handle accrost your brooder so she can go up on that.
Great way to begin training for perching later on.
Make cone out of some heavy weight paper. Place it on top of the waterer and secure with rubber bands or string.
Make sure it cant slip off or get to close to a heat source.

I am switching them to a larger brooder in the garage soon. I have a stick/perch that I got at a pet store that attaches to the side. I also have a chick and play thing for the bigger brooder.

I just cannot get the temp up in that thing. I don't know how others further north seem to manage. We're due for another cold spell (down in the 40s) for a day. I've got a couple better thermometers, it's only 85 right below the light, which is as low as it goes without putting it inside the cover, which I don't want to do as fire risk.

I'm thinking that they'll be fine and I'm being too big of a chicken to put them out there when they may get 5-10 degrees colder than what they "should" be at.

Most of them are 2 weeks today. I've got one that is 2 weeks, 4 days and another that is 1 week, 4 days.

85 under the light should be enough, even for the youngest one, as long as they're in a draft free area.
