Last 2 years at my TSC have been straight run. I bought my very first 6 chicks at TSC and got 5 roos and 1 hen. I kept 1 roo and 1 hen and gave away the other 4 roos. I then went to a hatchery and got 6 sexed, got 3 more roos and 3 hens. So, my experience has been nothing full proof on the sexing.
Combining flocks can be challenging. We waited until the younger chicks were large enough to fend for themselves in pecking order and then combined them after dark when all would be calm. Then they wake up together. Whenever we have combined, we have done it in 3-4 more adds. Your newest 3-4 hang together, so safety in numbers. When they would free-range, you could still see flock separation for a while. After a few months, they free-ranged as a single flock.
