Our cochin is 26 weeks old and started squatting on Monday.Comb and wattles are bigger and pinker/redder.

How fun! I love the funny first eggs that chickens lay, too. I've gotten round ones, elongated ones, tiny tiny ones, etc. Let us know when you find the magic egg!

Hope your girl hurries up with that first egg for you, tell her it would be a nice xmas present.

Congratulations on her first egg! She makes a good Santa!

Hopefully she lays tomorrow too! But I can't expect too much eggs out of a cochin, maybe she'll prove to be a great layer!

She might surprise you. The Leghorns are in another league of course, but Cochins actually seem to be pretty decent layers in the weeks/months when they aren't broody... most of them just go broody -a lot-, so that brings their total egg count down. Since she is a barred color, if they crossed in something like Barred Rock pretty close up to get the color, she might turn out to be a decent little layer.

Maybe she'll lay as much as our EE. Hopefully she doesn't go broody soon. She actually wasn't supposed to be barred, but blue. Barred wasn't even in the color selection!
