Getting geese for the first time

We're looking to get geese for the first time, but don't want to over-extend ourselves - but are aware it will be difficult to add new ones into the flock later on! We are primarily getting them as cute lawnmowers. We have an acre but they could easily get over the fences into the neighbouring farmers' fields and eat their grass too. Any ideas on what would be the best amount to 'mow' this amount of land? They are a cross between a Flemish goose and an Emden and we are only getting females. I'd love some advice or for anyone to let me know of something I may not have thought of. We have 8 chickens and had ducks until we had a recent issue with foxes, so we are used to looking after poultry, but will be putting the geese housed away from the chickens.

Geese are excellent grazers and you will love their huge eggs! I think that around four geese could keep this land under control. They are not good fliers so a very low wire fence that you step over works excellently to keep them in area and is inexpensive, but does not protect them from predators.

Good luck with them!
