I always just sold them at 8 weeks. They were all eating well, so I never weaned a single one. Those that stay with mom get weaned eventually.
We used long 2x4...that way, we can easily rotate the pasture, to decrease risk of worms. We’ve found used panels at auctions, online...we have a local internet website with all kinds of listings. Also, TS sometimes has slightly bent stuff that they’ll take money off. We bought some, brought it home and straightened them out with ease. So, Fancy is still escaping, even with what your son did again...or didn’t he do anything yet, and this is what your going to do next?
It’s awful.....I’ve been a mess all day!! My friends said I need to keep the kids out of site...so they need to stay locked up in the barn...and it’s finally nice!! Ugh. But, everyone can still hear everyone else bawling. I hear it now. Got a gallon of milk. I can’t wait until my new milk machine comes in!! Doing it b6 hand is such a pain, and I know I could be getting wayyy more milk!! We’re going to an auction on Saturday. They are selling a $2,000 milker. Obviously I don’t need one that good. But, if I can get it for a good deal...even $500...I’m buying it!! How much do you all think I should sell my cheese for? I have all the paperwork filled out, just not mailed out, because it’s a lot of money to get in on lawyers fees in case someone sues, etc. I don’t want to buy it, if I’m not going to make money off of cheese. A friend wants me to sell her cheese tomorrow.... if it’s good..she wants us to send in the papers because she wants to sell it at her store. But, how much do I charge for a pound? Today I probably took 1 1/2 hrs to get a gallon, with the crying....then it takes about 45 minutes to make the cheese. How much goat milk do you use to make one pound of cheese? Our food scale doesn’t arrive till Tuesday. Ugh...so, any help would be great. ive been told, some will pay $14-16 per lb of goat cheese...farmers cheese. Not in this area!!! We wouldn’t even pay that and we know what work it takes to make it!! So, if you were trying to sell it, make a profit, but actually keep selling it...how much would you charge...in a small town. The store in located by a camp ground. Many out of towers stop to get fresh eggs, from us, etc...so those people might be ok with the price, but we want to cater to regulars as well. Any advice would be great?Not too far from here is a cattle farm. Each year we know when he weans his calves. For about 5 days all you hear are calves bawling. He loads up the cows and takes them to his summer pasture and the Bull. That sounds sooo sad..
