Getting more chicks from Ideal!

Congrats on your order, hope they arrive healthy and just what you ordered!

silkieluver_07 and I went in on an order together. Think we are getting a total of 66 or 69 chicks lol. 36 are mine. She put the order in and requested an April 1st delivery date...hopefully we get them around then and not too much later.

In my order is more colors of standard Cochins, more d'Uccles and Silkies. Plus some breeds I haven't had yet....Speckled Sussex, Delaware, Orloff, Welsummer and Australorp.

Still hoping to get more EEs or Ameraucanas, Buff Brahmas, BOs, JWG and Frizzles.

Did you get your guineas sold? I still have mine. But they are caged! Mine were just being vicious! And they were raised with chicks!

I'm sure the hens would be stunning too. I'll have to tell them when they get here 'No Boys Allowed".

Yes, the guineas went to a lady in Bangor today. She's been hunting them for awhile. She also took 2 roosters and 2 hens. She emailed to say she'll be back this weekend for 1 more rooster and hen. Then I only have to rehome ONE rooster and I can work on my breeder pens

Awesome! I think I am done for breeder pens. I have so many I am not sure how I will ever keep them all straight! I will have.

Oooooo! I've just placed my first order ever for chicks from Ideal last night but I have to wait until March 25

It seems like waiting for Christmas all over again!

Of course, we have to build a coop and all.....lol I've got plans for a 14 foot long, 4 foot wide, insulated coop with a little loft to give the girls extra room to get out of eachother's way, and a 20 foot by 4 foot run, my husband has a hammer & circular saw and knows how to use it! But we do have time, and hopefully some nice weather by the time the chicks are big enough to be put outside.

I couldn't make up my mind which pullets to buy so I bought a few of everything that looked nice (after weeding out the other ones that looked nice!)

2 Australorps, 2 black sex links, 2 brown sex links, 2 Cuckoo Marins, 2 Easter Eggers, 1 Golden Laced Wyndotte, 1 Sussex, 1 Silver Grey Dorking.

I suppose I'm going to be getting some males with that order since it isn't 25 chicks or more. I suppose they aren't marked in any way so I'll know which is which?

Do I need to buy the Grogle goop Ideal wants to sell me that the chicks supposedly need to slurp down after shipping or don't I?

And if I do, how much of it do they need? The email was kind of vague about that. Any alternatives to this green Goop?

You don't have to buy the Grogel goop stuff, but I did. I just thought it sounded good. The alternative is just plain water and chick starter food...that's what most people do. You can add electrolytes and/or vitamins to their water if you want to (you can buy that stuff at a local feed store).

Thanks! I had never heard of it before and had no idea if it was a good buy or not. If I can just give them vitamins and water and crumble - I'll do that.

I know what you mean about pins & needles. And I've got such a LONG WAIT I may have so many holes from those pins & needles that I'll leak.

No way to keep them quiet. They are born to crow! LOL Here is a pic of one of my former silkie hens.

Your roosters (if they are black sex-links) will be black with a white spot on their heads. But there is no telling what breed they will send you. I got black sex-links and a friend of mine got Saipans as packing peanuts. I imagine it is what they have on hand that is extra. Good luck! I am hoping we will get Buff chanticleer roos since my friend ordered some.

Cherry eggers are a New Hampshire Red X RIR. I do not have any yet. I have my NHR in with white rocks and a Delaware for the sex links. I have heard that a Cherry egger is a very productive egg layer. (So I have been told

) And I just looked. I don't have any recent pics of my EE. I will have to go and take some.

I will be back in a bit with them.
