Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. I'm so sorry about the loss of your chick. It's always so sad to lose one of our flock. If you have any kind of predators in your area (dogs, cats, racoons, opossums, weasels, snakes, rats, etc.), I would recommend replacing or covering that chicken wire with hardware cloth as their are too many predators that can tear through chicken wire, or squeeze through the openings in the mesh. Using hardware cloth will cost some extra initial expense, but it's cheaper than replacing your flock. There is a good article at http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2013/07/11-tips-for-predator-proofing-chickens.html on predator proofing your chickens. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in getting your chicks.

Welcome to Backyard chickens. You may also want a slanted roof on the coop, so water (snow) will drop off. Lots of good information and descriptions at the Coops section. It is well worth the visit.
