Getting Quail- advice appreciated!

I am soon to get quail and I have already built the frame of the cage. its a stacked cage made from 2x4s and hardware cloth. I have 1 community pen and 4-6 breeder cages! I am soo excited but am slightly unsure of were to get the quail hatching eggs, my possibilities are from southwest game bird farm and/or myshire farms. what do yo guys think? I was planning to get the salt and pepper production mix from southwest game birds for some a larger genetic pool and then get the surprise mix from myshire, or possibly the sparkly quail. i can't wait to get them! I plan to breed for large eggs size, large body size, good health and i want a mix of colors. I will use zip ties to mark the birds and have color families. I will then breed like blues males to reds females or something like that. I will have no or very few males in the community pen! what do you think? i will possibly build another cage at the bottom if i feel like i need more quail.

yeah, I researched the crap out of this project! doing everything I can to make sure there are no problems. I was going to go with the spiral matings and color code families. it would go like this, red males to orange females, orange males to yellow females, yellow males to green females, green males to blue females, blue males to purple females and purple males to red females. with this system theoretically, I could go about 20 years with no inbreeding issues i think.

Did you end up ordering from Southwest? If so how was your experience?

No, I ordered from myshire farm, I really liked them as they let me custom order eggs, and answered my questions.

I just ordered some juvenile quail from Southwest, which was also really great. If I ever want to order eggs to add some variety I will definitely look at Myshire too. Thanks!
