Getting ready for some cold weather.

My wife went and shut the door when she got home, which was good because I was later than i wanted. I brought out water and the blink to keep tabs on them. It was surprisingly warm in there. Made me feel better. I had considered a heat lamp, but figured the light would cause more trouble than good and i don’t want to stimulate their egg production or disturb sleep. Their litter is deep , should be fine.
-15 here right now, as DLM said, its been a mild winter.

Hubby sent me this picture. Wood cellar has new occupants. Having them stay there until Sunday when it becomes less deadly and when I’m back home to help transition them back out. He’s concerned that it’s still not warm enough. I’m trying to convince him that, being off the basement, it will be warm enough and that cold is ok, and less shocking to the system than having them be too warm!

They'll have fun hunting for bugs and gnawing on the wood.

There’s plenty of tasty bugs in there for them! I’m not looking forward to the cleanup when I get home. Hubby sent 2 pictures this AM. Everyone made it through the night! I’m not sure that they would have in the barn. -28 is a mite bit unfriendly, especially when it was 30 above zero just a couple of days ago. Hopefully, they will not get sick from the stress.

Everyone’s ok! Thank you for checking in! I got home early this afternoon and was greeted by Daphne’s loud impatient quacks from the basement. It was almost 30 today, perfect weather to move back to the barn. Hubby made a path through the snow for them, and we opened the basement door after evicting them from the wood cellar. Once they figured out where they were, they forged ahead back home, although Goon 1, Matilda, and Daphne waddled through the deep snow making their own path, while Goon 2 preferred to fly back to the barn.

At the barn, they celebrated being home with great enthusiasm, then ate dinner. Daphne’s feet are not great to begin with, but I didn’t see any obviously scary changes. Everyone else looks fine, although they desperately need baths, which I hope to be able to provide later this week when it warms up further.

How’s your crew doing?

They did fine, they were disgruntled about being locked up for a whole day, but roared around this morning and then settled into their big nest for a bask in the sun, hit 40 here, my wife’s friend was over and the kids had a good time feeding peas, ducks had a good time eating them. I couldn’t convince them to handle the mealworms… but they are city kids so, its to be expected.
