Hi! I am new to the forum and new to chickens. We haven't purchased chicks, as of yet. We are still educating ourselves! We have a small 3 acre property that has an old coop, but I am looking into what we would need to do to make it habitable again, or making a new coop.
We are looking for eggs and most birds, and will probably *hopefully* expand into turkeys.
We live in BC Canada, in the Thompson Nicola region, just on the outer fringes of the desert. So, hot dry summers, and cold snowy winters.

I am glad you joined us! You are being very wise to educate yourself before jumping into chickens! Even though they are very easy, there is always a learning curve in your first year! If you ever have any questions, don't hesitate to ask! Or you can just hop over to the Learning Center: https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

Its packed with great info on raising chicks, coops, etc. I hope you enjoy BYC and find it very helpful! Best wishes!

Welcome!

As you have already received some links to some good starting points, I will just wish you all the best and also your flock when they arrive.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out

Hello Everyone! My family and I are new to chickens and working on a suburban homestead! I've been an active gardener and canner for years, and now that we've moved into our new home with a much bigger yard, we've stepped it up a notch and purchased 6 chicks from a local feed store! HOLY COW! We have a small coop for right now while the chicks grow (they are inside right now, with outdoor time when we have nice days!) and next weekend my hubby and I will be finishing the coop addition and run area (pictures to come!) My husband now calls me the Chicken Whisperer, and truth be told, I've fallen in love completely with all the little fur balls.

Meet my girls!
