Getting rid of flies in and around the run.

Good idea!!

Buffalo Gnats!?!?!?

Buffalo gnats breed in damp, wet areas at certain times of the year. They bite, sucking blood. They drive the chickens to distraction and if a heavy infestation, have been known to kill the chickens. Gnats, tiny pests that are so hard to fight off, but a spritz of vanilla will send 'em packing.

We hung up some "Flies Be Gone" fly traps. Disgustingly amazing stuff. Hang it well away from the area and it'll collect a lot of flies.

Will the chickens be harmed if they eat the DE? We use it for flea control on the dogs and I heard that it's good for worming them. So, can I assume it's safe for the chickens to peck at?

I use the sticky taps on a roll from TC. I hang them outside windows and doors. Yucky but they do get all kinds of flying bitting insect.

I tried Fly String and it really works!! You can find it at Walmart and you just tack it to the ceiling of your coop! :cd. Make sure it is out of your flock's reach.
