Hi my name is Rich and i live in Nebraska. I live right outside the city limits and i want to start building a coop as soon as the snow melts.
I’m thinking of getting 5 egg layers but it might be too many. I’m married with 1 son. We eat allot of eggs and i think it would be fun to have our own chickens.
Right now I’m just researching what all is needed. It gets cold here in the winter so ill be heating my chicken coop with heat rope from Big Apple Herp.
When I get started ill document it here. I'll probably be asking some questions as I progress.

- I do want to mention, before you put a lot of money, time and effort into it, make sure you are zoned for chickens.

I think 5 will be a great start, just be forewarned, chickens are addictive! I was only going to have 6, now I'm up to 30, and have more ordered for the spring.

from Illinois! BYC is a great resource for learning and asking questions. You'll love having chickens more than you can imagine. I sure do!

Im right outside the city limits so im good on the zoning laws. I do live in a small neighborhood though right on a lake. So as long as i dont have any roosters i should be ok.
