Getting Stains off Show d'Uccle

On my light colored birds I used Tide bleach.
I fill the cap up to the first mark then mix it into a tub of water (warm of course). If the stain doesnt come out with just scrubbing with my hands, I put some of the bleach on a toothbrush and scrub fairly hard, nothard enough to hurt the bird but just enough that the stain comes out.
I started doing this a couple years ago and it works really well.

And are the feathers okay afterwards? I may use this technique :)

Baking soda and vinegar? It'll create a foam and the baking soda is mildly, gently abrasive so it might get any sticky residue out as you gently rub with your fingers. I hope you succeed, both in cleaning the feathers and in the show ring! :hugs

Bleach doesn't make them sick if they preen their feathers?

Bleach is naturally broken down by sunlight and the bird is rinsed of the bleach water before it is dried out and put back outside. So no, if the feathers have been rinsed and dried properly, a bird will not come to any harm from preening feathers after a bath where bleach was used.

That being said, if you're that worried about it I suppose you could add an extra rinse in between bleaching and the final rinse. Aquarium dechlorinator removes/breaks up chlorine (bleach) and you could add that into the second to last rinse once the bird is in the water. Swish her around gently a bit and then move her to the final rinse.
