Hello everyone,
I stumbled on this site while searching the internet for info on raising chickens. I don't have any of my own right now, but am hoping to get some from the local feed store in spring to try it out. At the moment I'm trying to learn as much as possible from as many sources as possible and this site seemed fantastic!
I'm in my thirties, with a husband, 2 permanent dogs (pit bulls), a variety of foster dogs (also usually pit bulls) and one horse (Quarter horse mare). I'm a graphic designer/page layout person for a local paper and in my spare time I'm also a portrait artist... I love drawing animals and donate a lot of time/drawings to animal rescue groups for fundraising.
I live in a 130 year old farmhouse which we are in the process of restoring to sell it and move up. There's only an acre of land here, but we own 120 acres a little way down the road which will someday hold our dream home and hobby farm. Right now it's our managed woodlot.
At this point I'm a little intimidated by chickens, but that's strictly because I know next to nothing about them. We moved to the country to become as self sufficient as possible, so chickens will be our first small step toward that. Before this farmhouse we were stuck in a trailer park in the middle of a city
Well, that's me in a nutshell I guess... can't wait to get to know some of the people on here
