Welcome to BYC. Please read the posts from @DobieLover again. Its great that lowering their lamp calmed them, but as she pointed out, getting too hot can also be devastating. They are delicate creatures. Keep a close eye on them and do check their butts regularly. Pasty butt can kill them.

Chirping and 'talking' is normal. Loud chirping is a sign they are cold.

I have about 80 chicks in this house right now, from 2 days old to 2 weeks old, who all peep-peep-peep quietly, but if one chirps loudly, I run. When our power went out the other day from the ice storm, now THAT was chirping!

This is some of them. These are hooked up to a Jackery, so they didn't know the difference, but the other brooder sure did because they were COLD.
