Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

Thanks, Scott!

I just changed it this morning. I would use the pic you mentioned, but I was 16 in that pic and I would be afraid people would think that is what I look like now.

I wouldn't want to have to break all you guys' hearts.

Oz, any chance of some more details on your high-rise brooder? Measurements? Are there bulbs in the back for heat? Keep the pics coming, I'm thinking of stealing this idea.

I have a similar brooder with 9 bays - 5 levels. (8 are half size) with heating lights (30w)

This is 72x36x16 for each of the five levels and no heating

Its meant for 4 weeks and above

Hope this is what you were looking for.

EXACTLY what I needed. Thank you! I don't know how I missed it........

That's 72" wide, 36" deep, and 16 " tall on each level - right?

ETA: Gosh, I went back and found diagrams and everything. I sure thought I was keeping up with posts on this thread, but I sure missed those. I'll be more careful in the future.

I don't have help, I am worried that at 3' deep, I would not be able to reach the back ESPECIALLY on the lower levels. Is this a problem for you, Oz?

the first hi-rise brooder I made was a modified "ohio" brooder. The back section has a small heat source with a divider coming down from the ceiling to trap in heat. The chicks pass freely under it

It also has solid doors on the back side that enable easier access to light and aid in cleaning. the whole thing is on casters for easy cleaning.

sorry pic is sideways its ok in my pc.

I have a 4'x4' brooder that I cannot even come close to reaching the back. For years I had to lift off the top and use a board to herd the chicks to where I could reach them. Last year I got a large aquarium type net and it works great to reach into the back and scoop up the chicks.

Good luck.
