Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

Aww, poor guy... glad momma goat is ok though...

Hang in there, little buddy... even though if you do you might not have anything hanging for long...

One of the problems with animals that become labor intensive is that they become pets. We dont have room for pets unfortunately. He probably would be a good wether to pull a cart but we dont really have anything for him to pull and I have a few more priorities higher than making a goat harness.

To keep him full of hormones is not really appropriate either.

Those jewels will have to go - if he survives that is.

I totally understand, Oz... working farm or animal based business, it all comes down to the same thing... produce something to help out in some way, or become what is produced...

Goat 110 and her lad.

We are giving him 50 cc of colustum replacer per hour.

Hopefully he will make it

I totally missed this in your thread!

Not trying to 'butt' in, and I know I don't say much here...but goats are "my thing". I'm just wondering why the colostrum replacer? Most new mothers aren't that picky about getting milked and the real stuff would be so much better for him.

Hey there

If I did not want opinion, I would mot post,

If he survives the night we shall try. I did not want to overwhelm my new guys with a crash course on how to milk.

I don't know much about goats but I do about dogs, I think it would be best for him to drink from his mother as soon as possible because she stops producing colostrum after a couple of days and then it goes. It's pretty essential that he drinks it to protect him from infection as it's rich in antibodies.

Hope he survives :)

Fingers crossed that he makes it.

Indeed. Its magic stuff.

I dont think the little guy is going to make it.

Either way, I will ask the guys to learn how to milk on the mamma goat. We have nothing set up but what the heck. Even if they work out how to extract 100ml
