Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

Sounds like you're having all kinds of ups and downs recently OZ. I been watching thread for a couple weeks but to lazy to type. Or to busy with spring hit fast after terrible winter. Another 1 of my fertility test will go full length again I guess. BYM and Rouen ducks. Trying a meat cross also but just got the pullets and roo separated tonight. Not sure because the pullets are varying greatly in size and are last years CX I didn't butcher. Have a nice big BA x Lh cockerel in with them now.

Might have a line on some retiring layers, leghorn I hope I might breed this year If I can get some.
USPS made my birds late.... or dead 60 meats SOMEWHERE in a P O. At least til Mon so I am NOT happy. Prolly will have to call hatchery for a recover. Never had issue before this year. Sadly hatchery is only 150 miles away.

Garden been taking a lot of my time so I don't have a lot to spend relaxing this year. Tilling new ground in this clay is backbreaking and tedious. At least we got plants started in house now and won't have to pay $2-$5 each at store. ANd we have 200ish of them.

Wife agreed to turkeys this year, guineas did not make the winter was real bad this last year. But got ok to try for a breeding pair of turkeys to save from wife.

And next month my wife's horse comes home to stay. He been at trainers for 18 months because illness after was broke.
And we have another baby due in June. So our plates kinda full. But we seem to make it work out just fine for us.

And I thought I was busy.

Thats the second bird shipment this week I know of that got delayed - and another that was given by the USPS to the wrong customer. The post office is slipping further.

Started seedlings are not an option for us - but at 2-5 bucks each I am glad they arent

Good luck with the new baby.

we got our 1st pair of turkeys from the local feed store

it turns out that they are broad breasted & can't re-produce on their own

so we will have to look into getting some heritage breed turkeys

what do i do with a 40lb tom ?

that's a bunch of turkey sandwiches

i wouldn't get just 2 turkey babies

they do fall over dead when young

you may end up with just a single turkey

finding a mate of the same breed can be tough

oh 1 more thing

who ever broke your horse should get some glue & put the poor thing back together

with a bit of luck it will make a full recovery

I'll go with the chicken & cake

most of the time the spegetti sauce is so sweet that it makes your teeth hurt
