Yup, remember that episode! I am terrified of the day mine start driving... their daddy was quite the speed demon and he has plenty of stories about it.. I fear the worst.

From the sound of it you'd be better off focusing on the birds that do work. If quail do so well, surely there are a lot of other folks keeping them then? Having a corner in the market with something just you provide (the chickens) seems to make more sense. Just my 2 cents ofcourse!

Because, you know, first thing most folks do when they bring home a newborn is dig a 4 foot deep hole in their driveway.... right? Did I mention I've been digging too? 2 weeks post-partum... my doctor would be yanking out his hair if he saw me

It's for a storm shelter, by the way. We've been wanting one for a while.. finally decided to do it. Dragging three little kids to a community shelter just doesn't work..

Oz, send us some of your workers? We're too dang cheap to pay the folks around here. One guy wanted $500. Sheesh!

Good Lord.. No. Ow.

I had no complications with this kiddo, but after an episiotomy with the first I wasn't doing NOTHING the first few weeks. This time I was walking around the next day.. after 48 hours, I went home, did laundry, washed dishes, cooked dinner, etc. I was out cleaning the chicken coop the next day. I felt amazing.

Had a neighbor come by yesterday, she's like "I saw you with a baby, but I didn't think it could be yours, you were working in the garden two weeks ago!" Yup, that's me...

As long as it doesn't hurt, I'm gonna keep on trucking. I can handle bags of top soil while pregnant, just one at a time. It's a different story for folks who have complications, but if you're having a healthy normal pregnancy, you're NOT sick/injured/dieing. You can still do things if you want, just stop if it's painful.

Gonna have to brag a moment, as a fat person. I am 5 lbs away from my pre-preggo weight

Heck yeah! I'm steadily losing waterweight still. I might just end up right where I started. That's awesome, since with my son I gained WAY too much.

Ahem. Back to chickens.

Doesn't she have the funkiest face? I bought her from someone who bought them as Australorps, but they realized they weren't. The person they got them from had Jersey Giants as well, so that's what they could be. The others have yellow in their faces, this one is all black though. They're fairly slow growers, she's 8 weeks old.



9 week old plymouth rocks. I am thinking I have a few more pullets than I thought. I think I have two BR pullets, atleast. The WR are obviously cockerels

What do y'all think? There re 4 BR, 2 WR and then the 3 possible JG (one cockerel and two pullets there, I think).

I have a 'bantam JG'... yellow feet, but the size of regular birds. These three do look to be more Jersey Giant.. yellow feet for sure.

Interesting! People build shelters like that around here too - but for protetcion from bushfires not storms.

That's Alabama red clay, Oz, and yes, it has a high iron content. Large ironworks industry in Birmingham.
