Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

My son gets his permit next month. I bought him a 4x4 Yukon and added extra roll cage around the front, through the firewall and beside and over the front seats. Put extra large side mirrors on it, too. The whole time I was working on it I kept having flashes of the old "Who's the Boss" episode when Sam gets a car. Anyone remember that? I'm making sure my son will be safe but I wouldn't recommend anyone drive in Virginia for the next year or two!

I'm right down the road from you in Troutville, keep us posted when we need to evacuate!!! Funny thing is, we just got a new (old) car that is manual. I haven't driven manual since I was about 18, and even then it was more of… get in and drive. All self taught. I am so pleased that I can still drive it, although with the mountains and hills around here I need to work on my confidence. I go out at night when the roads aren't too busy! Maybe you should be watching out for me!!

Oz My 1st batch of meats are hatching. Its a mix of colors so I figure 2-3 sires with that setting. Will know what better to expect in 3 weeks. Set a batch last night WLH=14, BSL=22, RIR=11 and A-W x CX 15 (Which I see as outlaying the "layer breeds". There is 1 more CX than RIR, but there is 1 more WLH than CX. There were 6-9 BPR in the BSL pen, somehow they keep escaping on me. The 1st 5 hatched are my avatar picture. Will post more later. 1 of the latest is a mix look of chipmunk and BPR chick, kinda cool I think. Theres still more pipped and chirping so not done yet.

Love the chick pics.

We should have our first first ever Guineas hatch this week. Very exciting. The dehumidifier pooped out mid hatch but it has been rather dry so I am hoping they will be ok. The Guinea due the next week candled well last night. We have 30 viable eggs in that batch

I am so over run with chickens and now the Guinea are laying up a storm. I may just end up giving up on quail all together. This will be their final test. If I am not getting 30 eggs a day in a month they will all go in the fridge. The quail that is.

We have had so many attempts and tragedies with these little buggers. The irony is that quail do well in the philippines. Maybe mine just never got the memo.

Mrs Oz and the kids with the whale sharks.

How wonderful for all of them and how depressing for me to only see the kids smiles in photos.

Lorenzo told his mother that the whale sharks are bad because they did not brush their teeth and now they sont have any.
