Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

oz,
Ok, you're the "crazy chicken man", here's a crazy idea that's might be right up your alley. The tub and fingers are all made outta plastic, easy to fabricate, & that part don't rust or rot. The problem would be the electric motor........ So figure out a way to hook that sucker up to an old bicycle. The vertical power transmission from the bicycle would need to become horizontal, of course. But I was amazed at what Filipinos could do when I was there. You could then patent the whole mess.

Ok, back down to earth now..... Isn't it amazing how we never fix stuff anymore, we just toss it and buy new stuff. I have fixed more small electrical appliances by merely sticking in new brushes than I can remember. I've saved a ton of money doin' that. That's likely the only problem in your drop saw. Either that or a break in the electrical cord/wiring. A continuity tester (volt/ohm meter) has always been one of my "essential" tools.

But you're absolutely right, we are very much overdependent on "sophisticated technology". That's one of the things that makes what you're doing with the chickens, goats, quail, garden, water buffalo and all - so attractive. We feel as if we've lost something with our jet planes and computers.
indeed we have become a disposable society. complacency and compartmentalization have overtaken our lives.

for me, the computer has liberated me from that place. i have a PC in the living room and a laptop in my bedroom and I am always jumping on one or another. cloud drives like dropbox make my files accessable from anywhere so I can even pull them up on a phone or an internet cafe in a foreign land. i have never played anything more than a little poker on a pc. I do download the odd movie but most of the time i am reading new stuff.

so many of us here are constanly learing from each other here and the availability of information at our finger tips gives us resources humanity has never experiened.

while I have the luxury of helpers and employ the services of others with things like car repairs, there is nothing done or built that I dont have a good knowledge of and could really do myself if i had the time and dexterity.

got trouble in 1 of my brooders

the 3/4 week old chicks are sick

not all at once

but more every day

already lost 4

runny nose & a small amount of blood in the poop

any idea folks?

i have them on duramycin

& they will all stay in the same brooder till they get better or all fall over dead

whatever it is i don't need it in the rest of the flock

what can i use to treat them?

i think it came from the CX that i got from the feed store tat are in that brooder

but i can't be sure

never had this trouble

i'm done with feed store chicks for good

get hold of some dimethox - its a sulfa based antibiotic that is gentler than sulmet.

it will cover everything from coccidiosis, fowl cholera and infectious coryza and most bugs in between

Mrs Oz and the kids are off to jump into the ocean with whale sharks this morning

They drove over the mountains yesterday to the city of Dumaguete and spent the night in a hotel. It had a bath in the suite that the kids spent most of their time in lol. A private pool in their minds.

This morning they caught a ferry 20 mins accross the straight to Oslob, Cebu

They will then use local boats to find the whale sharks - Toni is ready!!!

well shoot, went by a TSC a couple hours ago while heading back with the wife's new to her car

i'll register it tomorrow, then we will have some serious driving lessons

she couldn't figure out my car..... "what peddle do i push to make it stop"?

i guess 3 choices were too many for her

so this car only has 2

WARNING: after tomorrow stay off the streets & probably the sidewalks if your in the northeast

it just will not be safe for man nor beast for some time to come

screw her left shoe to the floor to keep that foot off the brake or you will need therapy from seat belt injuries

she only needs to be able to drive 5 miles to work

it's a $1200 car, if she smashes it to bits i'll send it to the scrap yard & go get another

it's not like there is a shortage of toyota's up here from back in the mid 90's

i figured on bringing a dozen pillows & putting them all in my lap

that way i don't end up all busted up afterwards
