We just banded the local chicks that the mama abandoned to sit on some eggs laid by her buddies. Just cable ties. We will replace them next week.
I have 9 colors lol. The next batch of eggs will contain breeds that are clearly distinguishable so I may just band all the mutts.
it must be an OGM mutt as the other batch had a RIR roo.
Where do you get your cable ties? I have 4 colors from Wally world, but they come with a bunch I don't really need.
sounds like things are moving along.those are some fine looking young ones you have hatched out OZ
i just turned out all the lights so i could do an egg check
out of 41 set eggs i had 1 that quit really early & 8 clear
most of the clear looked to be from my britts
as soon as i get a couple large size nest boxes built i will be moving those britts to their new quaters
i hope they like the back end of my workshop
they will also be getting a nice warm bath & a bottom trim too
it's only below freezing here at night so their water should only have a small amount of ice on top when
the Mrs. goes to check on them in the early AM. (i think she gets up before the chickens do)
i also got one of those black rubber flexable water pans
it was only 8 bucks at the feed store & should give them good service till i can put their
summer time hanging water bucket with nipples in (those don't work well in cold weather unless there is a heater inside it)
so i still have 32 eggs cooking 3 being from my silkie pen
the rest are probably buff orpingtons
are you still planning on doing a May egg run to the PI?
the hens are almost back up to full production
take care
piggy
i have 7 buff hens so getting you 24 eggs should not be any real problem over a few days timesounds like things are moving along.
i will be going end of march and end of may, july 4 and memorial day weekend
