Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

The website is looking great; I haven't finished exploring but just looked at your breeds page. Marans are now accepted by the APA; Black Coppers, April 2011, Wheatens in Oct 2011 and whites in Jan 2014. There are many other varieties that breeders are working on, pure black, pure blue, blue copper, the cuckoos, lemon cuckoo, lavender, ect.
Great to know.

I will adjust the info on the page

Thanks

After the gale force winds yesterday, things have been pretty quiet as far as the weather goes.

Typhoon Henry (Matmo) looks like its going to veer North and miss the Philippines.

On the hatching front, we had a good hatch this week with 80% hatch rate without a dehumidifier running. We added barred rocks, RIR, Orps, jerseys and mutts to the brooder.

We are waiting for the Cuckoo Marans and a bunch of Ameraucana to start laying - along with a few others.

This week we bought a new role of fish net. This one has a much smaller hole. Its 3/4" x 9ft x 330 ft. We will use it for a new run for chicks. Ocaisionally the little ones get stuck or even through the other netting.

That will give us

Layer Coops A & B - 8ft x 8ft with a patrially covered 8 x 30 run
Breeder Coops 1 - 5 6 ft x 6ft with a partially covered 6 x 18 run
Breeder Coops 6 - 11 4fr x 4ft with a partially covered 4 x 12 run
Duck Houses 1 & 2 12ft x 8ft with a 400sq ft netted enclosure and 8 x 4 ponds
Guinea Breeder Coop 6ft x 18 ft with a roof over 50%
3 grow our pens between 120 and 200 sq ft with 600+ sq ft
1 quarrantine pen 6 x 3
2 intermediate coops (used for guinea keets at the moment) 6 x 3

7 brooders
1 600 egg incubator
1 150 egg hatcher

15 quail cages
2 chukar cages

Its amazing how it accumulates

Even though it is a farm and has always been a farm, we have to have the place officially zoned in order to get a "Mayors Permit" so we can get a tax number.

We have local village clearance, health certification from the mayors office, our business name registered with the department of trade and industry and breeders lisences from the provincial dept of agriculture.

So all we need to do (at least we think but one never knows lol) is draw a plan of the farm and its buildings.

They would go well with my purple passion flowers.

Good luck on your farm plans and permits......sounds
like you have it all going good so far.
