Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

That is too bad Oz I hope you will find another couple who will fit the bill. I returned home one day this week to a flooded yard due to our lawn crew turning the water sprinklers water back on after a freezing spell and not observing that the taps were on in the paddock and water was spraying out full tilt I believe we are hiring the mentally incapacitated

Exit Roliito (Jun-jun) and Rona

When I got back from the Philippines I was concerned that they were not going to make it.

We had trouble with small things that created a distrust.

A few weeks ago we had relatives drop of their monthly allotment of 50kg of rice. They honked at the gate for 5 minutes and checked the gate. The padlock was in place but unlocked. They entered the property with their car and honked several times - still no answer. They got out of the car and walked down to the beach fence and saw nobody.

As they were getting back in their car Jun appears from their house - waking up from a deep sleep at 4:30PM. Upon questioning by Ida Rona said she was in the garden at the front of the house weeding - but this is not possible because she would have heard the horn and indays cousins would have walked right past her.

Then last week Ida arrived on a surprise visit to find the plants in the nursery all drooping. When she asked Rona when did she last water them her reply was yesterday. When pushed she then said two days ago. Inday got rather upset and informed her that she waters her plants in bacolod every 2 days and knows what they look like when they get watered. Jun defended her saying that if they were to water the plants every day, thats all they would be doing. Ida watered all the plants on the whole property in 3 hours - she then told jun that he may have time for a little more work if he did not sleep half the day (bernie had confirmed the sleeping as jun can never be found to help him with any heavy lifting).

We cant have people we dont trust.

The hunt is on for housekeeper/gardener version 5.0
I do understand the issues and the problem you are having with them. I don't understand how people who had nothing intell they went to work for you could/would act this way?
I am wishing you the best of luck in finding GOOD people to work for you.

I wont have more photos for a week but CocoBeach has been busy as always.

On the egg front,

After extensive searching, I am out of luck on many fronts.

I am in desperate need of a blue egg rooster so will probably get some ebay eggs and hope for a male.

I could not get any of the traditional recessive white birds but it looks like Bresse are "c" gene carriers. I have a line on a few doz eggs so I will see how it goes. Worse case is I end up with a good dual purpose bird. If it hold true that they are white recessive, I will have the foundation stock of a unique red

The white cream Legbar sports are recessive white. Not sure if that would work for you though.

I believe the very first batch of eggs from me (long long time ago) produced a white bird that you thought may be a leghorn (you had a mystery white chick in your hatch I seem to remember and the eggs had not been separated ideally for hatching).
There were also one or 2 other legbar chicks that hatched. Both had a white father so carry white.
Those birds disappeaed from the posts so maybe they did not make it.

They were part of the grow out pen thatwas attacked by cats. The surviving white birds are brown and white egg layers.

It looks like I am going to get a chance with some Ameraucanas and A few legbars this trip afterall. I have Bernie hatching so provided he hangs around, I may still have a chance.

I came accross this video on youtube.

It means so little to just about everyone but made me howl.

I have boarded those beasts 60 times on transpacific flights and traveled in excess of 450,000 flight miles in them (of total 640,000 flight miles accumulated).

I got to know them intimately. Mt favorite seat was 11K - the first row of business class, a window seat in the top deck.

Why 11K you may ask? - well PAL was expecting to retire the planes three years earlier but the Philippine equivalent of the FAA failed to file papers with the US FAA and as a result - all Philippine carriers were banned from adding new flights or new planes to US flights - the 777 they had bought had to fly elsewhere - like Canada and then Europe.

The company maintained the mechanical side of the planes very well but did not bother grounding them just for cosmetics or things like broken video. 11K on one plane had a broken inflight entertainment system for 2 years. If you knew how to complain just the right way, the purser would give a voucher "Miles Settlement - Inoperative IFE system" - worth 25000 miles if in business class!!!

I scored 250,000 "sorry" miles - which assisted in me only ever flying economy one leg out of 62 in economy.

The new planes are nicer but I have not got to know them yet

Fairwell my friend...
