Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

Oz I am hoping Bernie takes up your offer.... congrats on the new hires an older couple may be just the ticket.

For what its worth.... Do you have a workshop You might benefit from a small lathe and varoius shop tools like band saw cut off saw .... For the small projects. You can machine wood on a lathe as well...

Of course you may already have something setup.... But this is what I would want if I were in your postion.

Impressive....

When i was fourteen my dad showed me how to set one up.... it took about fifteen minutes mostly safety instruction. I soo wanted his when he passed away but mom wanted the money.... and I didn't have a place to put it. They make very small ones that are about the size of a band saw. some can be operated as a mill as well. This would be a useful tool for constructing small Cams and mechanisms for your incubators.

if I had Autocad Mechanical Desktop or Solid Works I could run a 3-D printer too. But what kind of product does it make. The ones I knew of used a powder and created a plastic prototype... fully functioning yeah but it was made of a plastic that could only be used as a form for making molds.

they now have a 3d printer that prints in aluminum

in 10/15 years you will not order parts from some far off state

you will download the specs & head down to the print shop were it will be printed that day

other people will just own their own

times they are changing

I should NOT have Googled "lathe"

Apparently it's a very dangerous piece of equipment if not used correctly, judging by the very gruesome imagery that popped up... and I have a strong stomach.

The real danger is that they are very quiet compared to wood working tools.... Dad used to teach machine shop in the Army. He stressed safety back when safety tools were minimum.... Eye protection..... NO loose anything. Clothes or hair or jewlry. Same goes for any power tool but other tools make a lot of noise. Which makes people more cautious.

Dad once saw a woman production worker making parts who had her hair loose. She got scalped because the hair caught on a turning part. So yep very dangerous. All of them are.
