#6 aluminum wire is good for 50-60 amps depending on insulation..... Corrosion has probably "infected" the connection point.... poor connections cause heat.... Using an electrical paste like NO-OX on the exposed wire and breaker connections should help.... BUT.... Think about running larger wire to a sub panel and divide the load....you hit it on the head Scott
its #6 aluminum wire and melting the insulation off it at the breaker. I will replace it will #6 copper. the run is 70 feet. #6 should be OK for 60 amp load
Copper wire would be an excellent choice as salt will destroy the aluminum wire.... Salt can get into anything and destroy it...
