Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

I saw you mention a possible trip to PA to retrieve some items from Sally on the next hatching adventure. I'm not far from her (just over an hour from Pittsburgh, PA) in Ohio. I have Silkies, Cochin Bantams & Old English Game Bantams & there is an Amish farm up the road from me with gorgeous Rainbow layers if you are interested should you happen to be in the area. I could ship as well, but pick-up may be better considering the journey they will have to make after. Here is a pic of the eggs from the Rainbow layers. I currently have 48 in the bator with all but 3-4 developing beautifully.

By the way, if any of the rest of you would like some of these Rainbow Layers, she gets 40+ eggs per day. All I need to do is give her 24 hrs notice not to wash them or put them in the fridge!!! I can get 4-6 dozen in 2 days time for anyone who wants some. $8 per dozen plus shipping. Discounts on larger orders & combined shipping.

Yay! Chicks and pictures

And that coop!!!! It looks like it could be an exhibit at the zoo, that is amazing how pretty your yard is going to be

Hey Piglett. Glad you found the thread. Does it make you miss your wife's province? I cant wait to get your monster orpingtons' offspring over here.

Registration is like so many other laws that are poorly enforced until you are the guy they check.
the province is both good & bad all at the same time
great place to kick back & relax
bad place to try to make any real amount of money (but you can make a little)
day 10 on the test hatch, all but 1 egg looks to have someone in it
the mystery egg not sure it's tough to see through the shell on that 1 for some reason
still not stinking so i'll give it a couple more days

As yesterday was picture perfect, today is not so. Twenty mile an hour winds are battering us directly from the gulf. We are working in the garage making the laying boxes. I will put a double roe of sic on each side of the duplex chicken coop. 12 boxes in an 8 x 8 coop should be sufficient for up to thirty hens going forward.

As I am faced with the possibility of only one breeding batch of purebreds I will just put rings on the maran and Australorp and put them with the mutts till I can bring overall new batch of eggs to make them partners to breed.

There are lots of lessons learned in this experiment. I am learning every day. Once back in los angeles I will develop long long lists.

In the mean time ....

The adventure continues!

The first born from my eggs is likely the polish mom, black silkie/polish roo... those were the lightest color eggs I had. Also had some barred rocks and gold laced wynad. laying at that time... most will be from the two polish Roos. The olive color eggs are from buff mixed hen/my corn flakes roo in the other run. see the pics in my album so you can see the possible moms :)

Love all the pictures :) the coop looks AMAZING! !!

love the looks of the new coop OZ
sounds like you will have plenty of adobo when you return there come May.
i'll set you up rite with everything my britts lay for a week
along with a bunch of american buff orpington eggs
so you can start hatching out the big boys
& show the locals what real chickens look like.
