Just came across this thread and it was so gripping I had to read all the way through, even though I should be doing chores in the garden. Great story, excellent coop - and photos of chickens too, couldn't ask for more. I'm hooked!

Our first power outage in 21 days. Not bad but it does not bide well for the remaining eggs. If it keeps up I will put the bator in the car and run the engine every now and then. I am glad I bought the inverter

If power is still out I would be getting the bators on the inverter if I were you. Hatch is the WORST time to lose power. I know this from personal experience.

The power came on after a hour so all is good. Its to the brooder for all chicks in the morning. I will candle the eggs left and toss them tonight if there are no signs of movement.

Even if there is no movement on candling I would not toss them without pipping the aircell to check the membrane. Sometimes you will just have a late baby that needs more time. If you touch the membrane, a live chick will wiggle. Put any wigglers back & give them more time. Just make sure the membranes stay moist so they don't shrinkwrap after the shell is opened.
