Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

A beautiful place Oz. Good vibes for your hatches!

Reminds me of when I was going to go to Italy the first time; no one around here ever goes out of country, except Mexico, usually to visit relatives. I had co-workers asking if I was scared to go alone and crazy stuff like that. I would tell them Oh no, some of them speak English and they drive on the right side of the road, so it's all good ;-)
most of the "drones" never want to leave their little area
i guess going more than 50 miles in any direction get's them all worried

you have to use your brain any place you go even in the US
do you think i would go alone to an all black section of a major inner-city in this country? NOPE
but i would go with a couple black friends
the same can be said for the Philippines
as long as the locals say it's ok ....well it is then
if they say"that is a bad place" i think i'll stay out of there then
with more than 7100 islands at hightide i'm sure i can find 1 that works for me :)

Day 16 continues...

21 hours into the 16th day

The humidity in the bators remains at 50%. Monsoon conditions with half an inch or so of rain each day.

The last set of pictures were taken off the road over the mountain range to the Oriental side of Negros Island.

The next set is from Sipalay. Its a resort town 30 miles to the south. Its loaded with Non-American tourists who aren't caught up in the terror fear our press and right wing government get so much mileage out of. It saddens me to see people who are so xenophopic that they are scared to leave the confines of their comfort zone. The world is a beautiful place and most of humanity are friendly and welcoming.

A couple of the pics are mine and the others are stolen but that does not diminish the beauty of sugar beach

Day 17 Update

So in 24 hours or so we should have Coturnix starting to hatch. They are in the hovabator at 99.5F

I am going to have Bernie do the first full and also final candle on the chicken eggs tonight.

Tomorrow is a busy day. Cinder blocks, 16 cubic yards of sand and gravel as well as steel rebar and cement will be delivered. Not perfect timing but I don't have control of the truck.

Rains are preventing us messing with the goose eggs under the scovie. They are from a different supplier so I am keen to see fertility. Still, we have plenty of time so I am not having my buddy crawling in duck poop mud to get to the nest.

Sounds like the plan is coming together nicely. So it all starts tomorrow, then you should have a almost constant hatch window for about a week? THEN you can report success!
years from now they will erect a huge monument for OZ in the province
it will have a life size OZ holding a huge rooster
they might even rename the island to OZland

well done mate, keep em hatching!

The original people of the Philippines are the Negritos for whom the island we live on was named. They are diminutive, dark skinned curly headed people who live in tribes. We have a group, the Ati, who live in the mountains behind us. I was really surprised when I first saw a couple of them in Cayuaun, our local poblacion or township, where the municipal seat is located. They are very friendly trusting people who have been easily taken advantage of through modern history. Here are some pics.
