Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

At first I saw a few chickens and a big goose, then I thought "I am never getting into washing chickens" I then laughed a number of times through the rest of that vid.

I stand by not getting into shows, but he's not such a goose, just a funny guy.

Hey Oz, Did you get any Maran's make it?
The maran eggs were all clear

I am not surprised - They came with 12 Wellies and 12 Marans - most were smashed on the way accross the USA. The guy used the wrong size shipping foam - squeezed 'em in. The "popped" on the way here.

I cant wait for Bernie to wake up and see if the Guinea Fowl finished doing their thing.

Interestingly - they call Guinea Fowl "Bengala" in the Phils. I wonder if they arrived by way of Bay of Bengal/Bangladesh?

but you need marans!

Day 25.75

5 Bengala hatched. one other has pipped but it has been a while. I will have bernie open the egg if no others pip soon. 5 or 6 white guineas is great. I will be taking mixed color guinea fowl eggs this upcoming trip to top them up.

We have produced poultry from 3 of 3 breeds with 3 more to go!

Hey Piglett!!

How are those Fench Californian eggs progressing?

And the Cuckoo Orps?
so far the french eggs look good
a couple had blood rings in them so they were pitched into the trash
but most are still looking good
i put 1/2 of them up under one of out broody buff orpingtons
our other broody has 1/2 of our muscovy duck eggs & 1/2 of the lemmon cuckoos
i had a large metal cage like what you would put a bunch of rabbits in (it's over 4 feet long)
i have it now inside the main coop up on a big strong looking shelf
i added 2 nest boxes for my 2 boodys
i didn't want my other hens laying any eggs in with the broodys
or stepping on the incubating eggs.
we swapped the broody at night & they look to be doing fine in their temp broody cage
the have food & water & some room to run around if they would like to.

the lemon britt eggs are still not to the stage where i can see much of anything inside them
i think today is day 7
i'll recheck them on sunday with my candel box
which works much better than a flashlite.

we started working on an outside enclosed area for the britts yesterday
i can't allow my splash britts to be outside in direct sunlite
or the feathers on their backs will turn all brown & nasty looking :)
so they will have a covered area so they can still scratch around & enjoy themselves.

thanks OZ

piggy
