I am glad psuedo bob is in the house!Update on Bob the terrorist rooster:
So, our other roo boys were sent for processing a week ago. Bob strutted around that pen like he was the chicken's cock-a-doodle-doo. No more competition, right?
Over the last few days, I noticed a change in Bob's behavior. When I'd enter the coop, instead of challenging me, he'd immediately exit. When I opened the slide door, he wasn't coming out immediately. Bob is ALWAYS the first bird out. I dropped some apple scraps in the run and called "chick chick chick" like I usually do...and the ladies came running but Bob did not. I was able to clean the coop without being flogged. And curiously, Bob's crow changed! He had a distinctive lilt at the end of his crow and he wasn't sounding the same anymore.
All of these little things.
Well come to find out...we have an imposter Bob!!!! My husband told the neighbor to go ahead and swap him for one of his more amiable Barred Rock roos. The neighbor made the switch early in the morning one day this week and didn't mention it to me, lol.
He was by last night to let us know of a break-in next door (somebody stole a couple of rifles....scary) and he asked me how Bob's been treating me. And I was like, "You know...he's actually been pretty good lately..."
Well the neighbor started laughing and laughing and then let me know that he'd swapped the birds out...LOLOL!! So everything makes sense now, lol. We have named our new roo Pseudo Bob. ;-)
They're up at a poultry auction today, in Canandaigua, NY and I'm hoping to add a Polish hen to my flock. I'm going to buy one of the neighbor's silkie hens, too.
This chicken stuff is quite addictive...lol.
