It will be several hours before the storm peaks at our place and it probably probably wont hit Romblon - mrs pigs island province til early morning.

Bernie and Analou have been told that no goat pig chicken or water bufallo is more important than they are and be prepared to evacuate if needed.

In the meantime, in Cavite where Mrs Oz has been staying is expecting winds to 50mph but schools are canceled because of flood risks, Mrs Oz is buying me drums that she will use as packing crated and I will use on farm. She spotted IBC 1000 liter containers for $95 and now she is plotting lol. My wife is such an enabler.................

Well, newbie mistake there... got the chickens before the coop. We have a small barn that needs repairs and we could have housed them in there but I wanted to save it for my Valentine (QH). My crazy mix of chickens grew up in my laundry room in a super big box for 9 weeks. We are now at week 13 and they reside outside in a cheap metal shed that we pulled off craigslist. This is only temporary, as we have a load of lumber coming the end of the month. We will be building the permanent coop then, which will basically be an 8x10 shed with roosts to the left and right of the door going the length of the shed (with poop boards under) and 4 nesting boxes at the back (hopefully with outside access). No real run, with an exception of a fenced in "safer area" around the door with understanding that they can fly out (or back in) as they please. We are going to so a sort of modified free range, but they get locked up nightly.

Love your perch, perchie! I used to ride a pair around for fun when I was younger. I used to compare it to sitting on a big sofa, they were so big around I didn't think it was possible to fall off!

LOL, I can so relate to this. We hatched our babies in early June, with the intent of modifying a shed on the property into a coop and run. Well those chicks lived in my house for many more weeks than I wanted them to. After a couple of weeks, I started carrying them outside to a small baby gate pen I had set up, which I covered with a mesh tarp to keep them in there. Then at night, I'd bring them back in. Eventually, hubby built their run, so they'd go out into the run during the day, and then I'd carry them back into their baby box. Hubby finished their coop towards the end of the summer. If I had waited for hubby to build the coop and run before hatching my chicks, I'd still not have any chickens. ;-)

Oz & Piglet, thinking of you and yours and hoping the storm does little damage to your families/properties. That is a scarey sounding storm. I've been through a hurricane, but by the time it got to me, almost 100 miles inland it wasn't too bad....

I've been through a couple of Hurricanes, myself, but none were ever really very terrible. I grew up in RI and was 11 yrs old when Hurricane Bob hit. I remember the damage and the trees down. I remember the eye passing us and it cleared up and we went outside for a bit but then had to come back in. We relocated to upstate NY and so were not in RI last year for Sandy. Even as far inland as we are now, we still had some damage to our property from Sandy. Siding that rippled and led to water leaking into the walls. And our trampoline blew clear across our property, just missed my husband who was tying down the tarps on our woodpile.
