Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

Good luck with the quail hatch! I currently have 21 Coturnix eggs going in a borrowed incubator. I candled them last Saturday and 19 of them look really good!

Good luck!!

We dont even worry about candling the quail. I cant see enough to make a judgment.

Make sure you get them high protein feed. Turkey starter is good. They also will drown in the waterer so fill it with marbles or pebbles

I actually got a quail watered base that fits the usual jars but it's small enough that I can't fit a marble in it! When they are older I'll see how they take to a rabbit waterer. Raising them in my climate means changing frozen water bottles frequently so I'd like it if they were outside the cage.

I candles with the brightest LED penlight I could get. I can't see details like veining but I can at least tell that there's a dark mass growing in there. Considering they were shipped eggs and all I was hoping for 7 or 8 so to have so many look like there's good progress is a surprise!

lol

my problem is that the pictures always seem the same to me.

I am taking my Digital SLR and a couple of lenses to try and get some quality shots this trip.
Very excited to see those... I have knee surgery next week, so I will be stuck on the couch for the next while with nothing to do but stalk BYC!!

On another note... one of my brown leghorn girls didn't make it to the coop tonight. Fingers crossed that she simply flew over the fence and is roosting in hotel pine tree for the night. Odd target out of the bunch for an owl or hawk... super flighty and matched the ground well compared to the whites and ssh.
