Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

What great images. You should be extremely proud of what you ahve achieved. I know you have some very important people in your life that make things happen, but you are the driving force behind them. It's your love, drive, guidance and hard earned folding stuff that has made this dream paradise a reality.

You photo's clearly show all of this. Well done to you and also those around you that have truly made a paradise.

ok here we go.

that is a fine looking tom you have there, i think he is probably the one you had a "talk" with :)

not sure on the breed of the roosters but they look to have plenty of meat on them ......yummy

i was looking to put a roof on the muscovy pen so i can remove them from the main coop

Nope big winter storm blowing through so i guess my ducks will have to wait a few more days to transfer

thanks for all the pics. the place is really starting to shape up!

Fortunately the folding stuff goes a long way over there. I do have crazy ideas but it takes special people to be able to pull of the getting it done part when they are instructed via remote.

We are skeleton staffing this week as Bernie and Analou are off.

Dado spent yesterday working alone on the coops. He added the green mesh dividers as well as finished the bamboo frame to add the thatch to. Dado has the skill of informing us after he runs out of something rather than before. He is therefore in a holding pattern for the thatch as he waits for delivery of used conveyor belt - that is repurposed as rubberised nylon to tie on the thatch. He also ran out of 1 and 1.5" nails. Mrs Oz spend several hours buying supplies yesterday so she was livid.

WE have a steel delivery today so it should come then.

20kg 5" Nails
20kg 4" Nails
20kg 3" Nails
10kg 2" Nails
10kg 1.5" Nails
10kg 1" Nails
20 lengths 0.75" GI pipe
4 lengths 1.25" GI pipe
100 lenths 10mm deformed bar

The coops - a 24" extenstion to the 30" wide current row house of 6x6 coops will be a major wind break for the new fruit trees. I planted 3 mango and 2 star apple trees near the coops for shade

the morning's progress

the front of the coops are skinned with plywood and then a sheet of amacan - split thin bamboo woven into a wall material. Amacan is about 3 bucks for a 36 sq ft sheet. It is often used as a stand alone wall stabilized with bamboo poles as a house. I like the "native" feel of it. It should be good for 5 years in this environment
