The vitamin and electrolyte solution I gave them contained Lactobacillus and Strep Faecum probiotics but I will look into Lactozyme. Having a local on the thread is a great resource. Translating the names of products or knowing what is available is often difficult. I really need to spend a half day with a decent para-vet or DVM.


Now I just have to stock yoghurt in my vaccine fridge

It will be a quiet day at CocoBeach.

Bernie took a day off to get his bike riders license renewed. In true Pinoy stlye, he rode passed two offices to go to the one that his cousin's friend's sister's mother in law's grand child works at. All he has to do is pay a fee. What can I say.....

We ran out of thatch for the goat house yesterday. We were short 200 pieces. It should come today. Two of the four walls were finished. I hope we will have the fence built by this afternoon (Thursday AM now). Despite all the protective barriers around the new fruit trees, it will feel safer for the goats and trees to have them locked up when not attended.

Speaking of trees, Mrs Oz picked up a Durian tree yesterday. This is the world's stinkiest edible fruit. It has been banned from the cabins of planes, hotels and even malls. It smells like sewar but tastes like heaven. She also scored more cacao (chocolate) trees and a tree called Mabolo locally or velvet apple in the west. The fruit is yummy but the wood is extremely sought after super hard, super dark wood.

After several attempts of getting Analou the Android, Mrs Oz took it to the Phone companies sale's office yesterday. They discovered the SIM was faulty. Its working great now so semi live updates may start by this weekend.

Our water bill came yesterday. It was a whopping 180p - $4.20. The power bill comes tomorrow - I am expecting that to be way less pretty. Incubators, welding and air conditioners will probably make it over 5000p ($120) for the month.

I have long toyed with the idea of a comnination of solar and wind power. These will have to be projects done when I can be there - post retirement type projects.

I use the number set to viable as an indicator of how the eggs traveled. Some suppliers eggs fail completely - Such as Dick Horstman's (twice now).
My real target is getting viable day 10 eggs to day 21. We have had the best hatch ever.

I am giving up on basques and bresse. My beautiful black bresse roo will get the chop on Friday. He is 26 weeks old so perfect for eating but I have yet to be able to hatch him some girls.

Heritage breeds, chocolate, blue and green egger breeds, SFH and Salmon Favs are it for me. We have 13 coops. Enough already

This is the type or similar to the type of wind turbine I have seen working up at my place. The beauty of them is they are always facing the direction of the wind. I want something to power the well pump later on when I move back up to my house.

They are somewhat less dangerous when they fail. Also you can build them out of composite materials with a few stainless fasteners.

I worked with my dad for about two years on a Solar Turbine Project for Cannon Wind Farm in Tehachapi. Those were pretty big.... you climbed up inside their tower to get to the top. the blades on those were fiberglas and Carbon fibers layed up to create a 30 MPH air foil. They statically lead the wind because they had tail vanes. They also were designed to feather when the wind got too fast. They were computer monitored but the only thing that was computer controlled was the breaks.

how many breeder hens in your 13 coops?

Some arent at breeder age yet.

I have been at this for 12 months. The first hatch was really proof of concept that yielded a bunch of mutts.

The true purebreds I have are 6 months old. Andalusians, BBS Orps, Buff Orps, BBS Jersies, Barred Rocks and Rhode Island Reds. I have between 2 and 7 hens and 2-3 roos of each. This is my base stock.

I have 2-4 month olds in most of those breeds as well as Creme Legbar, Salmon Fav and SFH to back them up.

This last batch will solidify most of the breeds. I still need Legbars, SFH, Salmon Favs and Australorps (and maybe some I cant remember of the top of my head)

We also have 30 Guineas that should start laying soon as well as a doz Chukar Partridge and 20 or so Muscovies that feed the gang. The 110 quail will be dropping eggs in 42 days.

Why loose that bloodline breed him with something else for half breeds.... take those chicks and breed them back to him. You will retain those genetics if not pure you may wind up with something extraordinary.
