Its back to the normal programming schedule at cocobeach


Chinese egg plant and Ampalaya (bitter melon) are being planted today. The local tomato seedlings will go into the ground at the end of the week.

Aljay is building a wind break for the vege garden out of the fallen and trimmed coconut branches. The fence will also go up around the garden.

After we played musical coops, the girls protested and eggs slowed but we currently have 80 set. First hatch will be in 6 days then hatchings every 4 days for a month. We need a pile of layers to give away as well as our landrace project.

The workers are back working on the fence. Its been such a long process I fear its going to be like the Sydney Harbour bridge painting, By the time you get to the end, you start again.

LOL, I would really like my dining room! And I know my husband would really like to have his tools organized in his own space. Some day! For now, it is what it is and we're just thankful we even have a dining room to put his tools in, lol!

Chinese eggplants are wonderful Oz. I looove eggplant stir-fry. So jealous y'all can be out and about in the garden. I've got some last-minute winter veggies sprouting in a window... and did manage to rake the yard yesterday.. closest thing to gardening in a while! Apparently we've got another cold snap coming. Blah.

I just texted my daughter's riding instructor to see if he wanted to cancel her lesson for Saturday, as its going to be 25 degrees outside. He was like, "Oh no, that's not too cold..."

We've been getting unusual cold spells. Last one it dipped down to 7F, which is REALLY unusual... ofcourse then we have days where it's 60F... and then the next you're scraping ice off your car again. Alabama weather, you can have all four seasons in one weekend.

Last I heard we're looking at mid teens again in the coming days.

Not too cold unless you have to jump down off a tall horse when your feet are frozen! OUCH!

I think *I'm* going to be the cold one, waiting in the barn for the hour...lol.

Luckily for her, she doesn't ever jump off the horse at this point. Her instructor has a tall stair thing that he pulls out and he helps her climb off.

Regardless, it's going to be a "double up the socks" kind of day.

Having had horses for 47 years and taking lessons as well as watching lessons, these are important questions....

Dismounting is an important skill thats why I asked. Some answers to the questions above would be reasons why he hasnt taught her how to dismount without steps yet. The skill requires you have your feet free at the last moment you keep hold of the saddle as you lightly hop down.... Even if the horse is running you can do this. This skill is a safety skill. You don't have to use it once you know how. But it should be taught eventually.

I am five foot eight and weighed 330 pounds the last time I rode my girl in 2003. She is over 17 hands tall. I got on using a mounting block... but refused to use one to get off and stunned my trainer when I did that style of dismount. It wasnt pretty but I got off clean without any worries. Muscle memory from my real riding days.

There was some discussion a while back about how to make soda bread if there is no soda..... YOu know me I am a relentless researcher. And that whole chemical process didnt sit right either.... considering the times the bread was originated..... So I dug more
