Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

9 SILVER PENCILED ROCKS
1 BANTY BARRED ROCK
2 BRESSE
7 BLACK COPPER MARANS
4 BUFF ORPS but 2 died the new guy just learnt about ants!
1 PIGLETS CROSS
1 WHITE FACED SPANISH
4 local.

There are still chirping pips. We will give it until the morning - a good 15 hours

Its a relatively disappointing but we have two new breeds well established in SPR and BCM. We also have enough BO now. As I have a Bresse Roo, hopefully we have 2 pullets.

I will have to bug Sally for more WFS eggs.

I cant have just one of this beautiful bird. Thats if her dog did not wipe them all out. To try and mitigate postal damage, I will have them shipped in a split load so if one box gets beat up, the other may not

The Swedish Flower hens did not make a showing yet. Thats sad but I can raid OGM and La Palma Chicks again

. Now I have one Banty Barred

The creme legbars had a traumatic adventure. The next batch will be pristine locals from SoCal.

Pipping are 2 salmon favs, a Swedish Flower Hen, a new hampshire 2 piglet crosses (orp x bresse)

The favs pips are less than six hours old.

Once again its a numbers game.

The plan:

Creme Legbars
Banty Barred Rocks
WFS
BLRW
Salmon FAVS
Mottled houdans
Assorted Polish
Silkies
+/- Black Bresse

Peafowl
Geese
Turkey

I can get everything except the WFS locally

Oh and in 8-12 months Jubilee Orps

The hatch was plagued from the start. Some best packed eggs were damaged. My extra 12 hours in Manila with the bags on the tarmac, Bernie saying he was coming back, leading me not to give as good an attempt at instruction as I could have then he decides to not return, Aljay whimping out and not relaying the dehumidifier process, both lights crapping out on hatcher.

here are the first few dry chicks

Definately two boxes, but not sure with only four hens remaining how many we can do. I can try the upsidedown bag storage method.
I just did this with my CCL and they look great so far, will know by the end of the week, it def helps keep the air cell small but I am worried about malpositions because it states no turning when pointed end up and in the bag. Dont know unless we try, and if there is a few clinical studies on it stating it works, it should in fact work!

Will inform of this oz, maybe we can do more than two boxes LOL!! you need an assistant traveler to carry more golf bags my friend! hmmmm I need vacation

outstanding, looks like progress has been made &

you have been able to get most of the flock out of here

have you made a must have VS. like to have list?

Guess things won't be terrible. Clerical error apparently and my meats aren't due to be shipper until Wen. So I am releaved that they did not get lost in mail but they emailed us wrong shipping date. Not over friendly when I called hatchery this morning. Them I mean. Either way wrong date emailed or they over sold and pushed back a week still slightly annoying. But mother nature decided to dump snow on us last night so everything is messed up all around.
On the plus side 3/4 of my CX pullets are laying so I may finally get a meat breeding project going like I always wanted. Only issue I have right now is my roosters (Not CX) keep getting out because run not covered, though 8 ft tall. But was thinking place 1 in every few days to keep fertility up, until I can get run covered.
ARG just got my turkeys pushed back 3 weeks unless I change breed. Hmmm .
Good note though my eggs are fertile, including rouens that I set. Just need decide when I want to stop collecting duck eggs and let her try and set a clutch.
And any eggs I don't set are sold every week. 1 family has order of 4 dz per week and rest go to a restraunt. So everything breaking even or a little ahead for the most part. Just need to get ahold of guy about those retiring layers. I have BA x LH roo I want to try breeding them with to see if I can get some nice laying pullets later on.
Might have a 2nd restraunt I can sell to if I up my birds and keep production going great as it is.
