Quite a wish list there Oz. I keep mine simple, lol. Seems like things worked out with the help also. Weather here can't straighten up for more than a week. I DO have at least 1 chick from fertility test hatched. 4-5 pipped last night but don't know if more than the 1 is gonna hatch. The 1 that did hatch was upside down, pipped at like 5 o'clock (On egg) last night. No movement or progress when I woke up so I rolled him to a 11 position. 4-5 hours later healthy little chick chirping away. Would like it if at least 1 more hatches so it has got company. Don't wanna buy him a friend because I should have a few coming over next few weeks. Hatched here and waiting on a call from a lady for BPR chicks hatched yesterday.
And tomorrow am going to purchase the adult birds. Wife said "Just hatch what you want.) she got discouraged buying when some offers went sideways on us recently. And chicks are getting outrageous any more. She knows I can hatch them so she wants me go that route.
Lots of hoping going into these first few hatches coming up. Ducks and meats being in the top hopeful list. Hoping also that the duck will set on her nest but w/o a mate I don't know how well that will turn out. My males have always been right there thru incubation and brooding.
Meats got penned again last night with the Austra-White rooster, who can't get out this times after finishing the pen and run covers. Got 3/4 today which I like for eggs from CX. After isolation I will be I think adding the leghorn girls to the pen. Egg color I can distinguish dam breed and chicks will be 3/4 LH, 1/4 BA so I hope great layers. And hoping the BA x LH blood helps the eggs viable from CX, those in incubation now doing fine. 12/13 so far with development. Also set up the BSL pen. For fall production and freezer guys so I can know what will be available later on. The male which I was not positive was pure but when me and DD put adult tags on the BA's few weeks ago I found the chick wing tag on his wing. So he is 1 of my pures hatched last year. Just wish he had a little more size, but at least he's got the BA egg laying to pass on if not the size for DP meat. Tomorrow might wrangle DD again to tag birds, at least those penned with him since only the BA's have adult tags now.
Neighbor that buys my eggs gave me some waterers and range feeders last fall. And Wens. she gave me a 10 hole nest box. Which run $150-$300. She had her coop confiscated by her son for a skinning house, he traps/hunts a lot since graduating last year. I want to talk to her about a roll of wire she has too, this I wanna buy though since probably cost her as much as that nest if worth.
So its a busy spring that still seems like winter with the cold wet weather. And wife giving me as much support with birds and all as ever if not more this year. Will check in the AM for more hatched but seems like just the 1 is gonna come out and say hi. We'll see.
