Hmm, 118, is that a family name Oz?

I wanted to name a chicken "Kakkonen" (Finnish for number two), but I wasn't allowed. The neighbors kids named most of the flock, and the new ones we got on Sunday came with names. Now I'm having problems remembering which is which because we have Wilma, Virpi, Viiru and Veera. Sort of defeats the purpose of having a name to refer to them when you have to add "The spotted one" or "The game colored one".

Ben, that goat sounds hilarious. I wonder if you could teach a goat to laugh like Eddie Murphy. That would be terrifying.

HFR, there's something about those baby geese that makes them look so appealing. Luckily I saw grown up geese on Sunday, the mess they make sort of cools down any urges of adding geese to the flock. They did look tasty though.

I named my brown leghorns 1, 2, 3, and 4. They are identical with slight differences in their combs. All I know is that if there are four of them and they are running around, we are in good shape

I like the idea of just having "Number Two", and not explaining what happened to Number One... But in my opinion just having some way to refer to individual birds is easier, because you can document their development and in case of eg. illness my better half can say "Keep an eye on Virpi" instead of "The slightly lighter brown one that isn't as light as the more light one with dots", which of course could be seen as a sort of name too... Of course if they all look the same it's a bit more complicated. Maybe you could try different colored hats on them?

Number 1 has the biggest thickest comb. Number two has two distinct lobes on the back of her comb. Number three has three distinct lobe on the back of her comb. Number four has a floppy comb. Easy, right?

That's like when the neighbors asked how to tell our labradors apart, I answered "The other one has the outer toe of her left hind leg amputated". They didn't find this information to be very useful... They have since learned to tell them apart though (And actually the dogs ears are slightly different too).

Oh, the dogs are named Vaiva and Kiusa ("Bother" and "Nuisance").

You see he used to be the Governor of the vast tract of land 118 down under

as far as i know he is just waiting for the Queen to Knight him

then he will be assigned to his next post in service of the Crown.

We lost less than 2% of eggs 3 turkey 2 new Hampshire 3 leghorns

Two roosters in the fridge already. I am weeding out purebreds that we don't have hens for. I may end up trying again with those breeds but it's atleast 6-8 months that I have to house the roo before I get eggs hatch and grow up. I would rather just a bigger batch then.


A huge white Bresse that was miss labeled as a jersey giant and my red Laced blue Wyandotte are in the freezer. A splash Jersey giant and a splash orp roo will go in tomorrow among with a breda hen.
