Boy, you almost look like a professional set up there. All I got is a few knives, a old wood table, a chopping broad, and a ladder. If we go the plucking route (turkeys) we add in the metal trash can and burner set up. How does one use the killing cones, I have seen them for sale but have not seen/read how they are used.

Good luck with your processing.

Wow... quite the setup! I have a long way to go yet before I need that stuff, but the time will come. Just curious... I see the stand/collection "bucket" for the blood under the cones. What do you do with the blood after you're done bleeding out all the birds? Is there a use for it other than burying it in a compost pile? Where I'm at, I'd be concerned the smell would attract unwanted visitors (foxes/coyotes/etc.). Thanks and happy processing

Lots of future delicious meals to be made.

Quote: You can use the blood for blood sausage Or you can cook it up and feed it to the dogs. But from what I have been told there isnt very much to worry about. Unless you are doing alot of birds... I am hoping to build a Screen enclosed processing room for it when I move back to my place.

You can feed the leftovers back to the chickens as well. Little Dinosaurs.... I am on a thread here about feeding fermented feed to Meat birds... Beekissed says By the time shes done all the little nasty bits have been stolen by her flock.... LOL.

I've heard to put water in the catch pan and some asprin and then pour it all on the tomato plants. Don't know if this works as I only heard it two weeks ago and haven't done any birds since hearing it.

Hey- that's me! Had the rooster dispatched, scalded, and half plucked this morning before DH noticed.

I do put water in the catch basin. Keeps the blood from coagulating so clean up is easy. We pour in on the compost pile, but not garden plants. My dogs would likely get in it and make a mess tracking it everywhere.
