Coming out of lurkdom. Oz, what an amazing and wacky adventure you have. (I did read all 844 pages...well, at least almost all of your posts within the 844 pages! Whew!) Congrats on the adoption, the farm and all your plans. I look forward to hearing more.

I'm not far from you (when you're stateside, that is) in North OC. I have a small flock of 4 (with plans to add 2-4 more later....hmmm though my city says I can legally have 20

) and a backyard that I'm turning into my own little urban farm.

I've lived in La Habra for a while and I love my neighborhood/ part of La Habra. LH is technically allowing chickens, but the ordinance rules on coop location bars most people from having these awesome animals. Rules say that a coop must be located 50 ft from any domicile/ inhabited dwelling, and 10 ft from any property lines. Most people do not have a yard large enough to erect a coop 50 ft from the house and the neighbors' house. I got lucky with this place. My previous home (in same neighborhood) would not have met the ordinance requirements. Funnily enough, the city doesn't bar the keeping of roosters, but I dare not have roosters...no need to ruffle neighbors' feathers.

Some might find the crowing idyllic - our neighbors look at me in shock whenever I ask if it's bothering them and suggest that I can process them immediately if they feel it's a nuisance.

I just managed to get a milage ticket all the way to Bacolod!! My recent flights have been filled with dramas as I try to upgrade. Now I am past 45000 flight mile for the year, I can use up a few of the 250000 miles I have in the bank.

Next run leaves August 19. Lorenzo turns 3 on August 31.

I will probably only take new Hampshire, SLW and Rhode Island Whites if I can find them.

I have 2 bikes for the kids I bought off craigslist today. They are heavy little buggers.

There is also a San Diego one...  SoCal and San Diego sometimes overlap on their get togethers.  Here in San Diego the ordinance is the same.... location wise.  But no roos.  Not unless you have x amount of space.  I forget what that is.   Thats in the city.  I have enough acreage it wouldnt matter.

I managed to get hold od 100 of these trays



At 48 eggs a peice - I could have the capability if 4800 eggs in the bator at eny given time.....

I think i just heard coop 171 in 6 months............
