Getting the flock out of here - a diary of a crazy chicken man

Sounds good Oz. I think I speak for everyone when I say that we're looking forward to your next batch of pictures

Another beautiful Sunday.

Jun is covering Bernie with the animals.

200 replacement bamboo "pusogs" are expected to arrive to add to the fence. The pusog is the lowest portion of a bamboo stalk. The walls are much thicker than the rest of the stalk. We will trim then so a notch is at the top so they don't hold rain water and use them above the cinder blocks as palings. They should let an average of 15 years.

I am just tinkering with the original dehumidifier as the fan bearing burnt out. I may just add an 8" vent fan to the outside. It does not have to be pretty - just functional.

I hope to also start on the gate for the new fence. I have the hardwood. I need to rabbet the posts so the gate is sturdy and closes nicely.

It's good to hear that personal are able to cover for eachother and things work out ok. Can you also add a stainless steel strap for a brace on the gate joint? Just a thought, and if the dehumidifier still works but needs a fan to move air, add a BIG fan!!

The sky is blue. The ocean is dead flat save the six inch waves lapping the beach.

Jun is busy clearing the debris from Friday's big storm. It always amazes me what ends up on the beach.

Bernie scored a flat tire on the way to work this morning. He had to wait until 6 am for a "bulkit" (a tire vulcanizing place) to open. He rolled in at 7:15.

We are inspired after the fish tacos made from blue marlin yesterday and with make large wheat flour tortillas today. Tomorrow I am going to make breakfast burritos.

Lunch today will be char grilled grouper.

Time to start on the gate.

Enjoy your Sunday eve/ Mon morning

We actually have really limited availability of ingredients so it's a constant struggle to be creative.

I have a pantry full of dried herbs and spices but fresh is still a challenge. I would love to make a nice braised chunk of cow but celery is unavailable.

Most herbs, lettuce, and anting else that bolts will.

We have been lucky with the fish lately. We have some One/wahoo/king mackerel in the freezer. The blue marlin is in season and it's a great replacement for swordfish.

Most of the pelagics and deep water fish are caught about 70 miles south where the coast fronts the south China sea. Local fish tend to be smaller varieties.

Tonight we will have a pork butt roast with roasted potatoes, carrots, calabeza squash, beans and gravy.

Its nice to just have to supervise the cooking instead of being everything from sous chef to dish scrubber.
